Updating users one at a time is fine for the odd change, but it doesn't scale when you need to update several people the same way. The batch user update form lets you apply one change to many user records in a single action, saving you from opening and editing each profile individually.
Use it whenever you need to change a shared setting, such as a department, resource team or default rate, across a group of users.
This article covers how to update multiple users at once using the batch update form, and how permissions differ from other user settings.
How to update multiple users at once
- Go to File Maintenance > Users.
- Select the users you want to update, using the checkboxes next to each row.
- From the actions bar beneath the list, select Update Selected Users.
- Choose the field you want to change and enter the new value.
- Confirm the update to apply it to every selected user.
Updating permissions
Permissions work differently from the other settings on a user record, so they're not part of the batch update form. If you want to set the same permissions across multiple users, do this through a user group instead. Add the relevant users to the group, then set the permissions once at group level.

Tips
- Use batch updates for shared settings like team, approval levels or overtime options, rather than editing each user one by one.
- If a setting doesn't appear in the batch update form, check the individual user record instead.
- For permission changes, build a user group first. It saves you repeating the same permission setup for every new starter who needs the same access.
