A credit note reverses some or all of the value of an invoice you've already raised. Use one to correct an overcharge, process a refund, or adjust billing after a mistake. In Synergist, a credit note isn't a separate document type. It's a normal invoice with its type changed to Credit.
Here's how to create a credit invoice in Synergist.
How to create a credit note
Build a credit note the same way you'd build any other invoice, then switch its type before you finish.
- Go to the job or phase you want to credit and select New Invoice, just as you would for a standard invoice.
- On the Details tab, change the Type drop-down from Invoice to Credit.
- Build your invoice lines and complete the remaining tabs as normal.
- Enter your values as positive numbers.
Why values stay positive
It's easy to assume a credit should be typed in as a minus figure, but that's not how Synergist works. The Type field is what tells the system this is a reduction, not the sign of the numbers. Keep every line item positive, and let the Credit type do the work.

Tips
- Double check the Type field before saving. It's the only thing separating a credit note from a duplicate invoice.
- Keep values positive throughout. If a total looks negative, check the type dropdown rather than the figures.
- If you're crediting a job that's already closed, you'll need to reopen it first. See Closing a Job for how phases and closed jobs work.
