Installing Synergist Connect

Aaron Dyson -

* Assumption:  The current site has a fully working Synergist Accounts link already setup.

* The installation location of Synergist Connect can on occasion give rise to issues such as when launching the application an alert is shown stating: “Are you sure you want to open the structure file in read only mode?”.  If this occurs, please see the suggested workaround(s) at the bottom of this guide.

Solution:

The first step is to install the Synergist Connect client software, this is a piece of "middleware" designed to interface Synergist with the current accounts data.  Synergist Connect is solely for use on sites that are utilising the Synergist Web Portal only and want to post to Sage 50 Direct Interface or Exchequer.

Step 1 : Download the Synergist Connect Software

Synergist Connect Download

Step 2 :  Install Synergist Connect

Click Next->

Leave the install folder in the default location ->Next

You are installing to the C:\ so will need UAC access ->Click Install->Click "Yes" when prompted with the UAC message

Step 3 :  Open Synergist Connect

Populate the settings to connect the Synergist Connect software to the Synergist server, which will then allow Synergist Connect to interface with the Accounts System.

  • Server Address: Enter the IP address or DNS entry of the Synergist server (if you do not know this please contact the Synergist help desk)
  • Username and Password:  The users Synergist Username and password
  • Use SSL - This should be on by default and port number is typically set to 443

Step 4 :  Connect to the Server and after a Synchronisation you should be able to access the Export to accounts options.

Note that there is no batch creation in Synergist Connect as this is all done in via the Synergist web portal. From within Connect you are able to post any available batches.

Synergist Connect not launching correctly after installation

When launching Synergist Connect if the below message is given it usually indicates that you do not have full access to the installation folder (C:\SynergistConnect by default).  This alert is usually shown when Synergist has been installed on a terminal server.

The message can also occur if a second user is attempting to launch Synergist Connect from a shared location (like C:\SynergistConnect on a terminal server for example).  This will happen if multiple users attempt the "run as administrator".

We would advise uninstalling Synergist Connect and installing again but this time installing to your documents folder instead of in the C:\SynergistConnect folder.

Synergist installation location

We strongly advise that Synergist Connect is installed on a user’s laptop or desktop (that also has Sage installed) and not on a terminal server.  This is because Synergist Connect is designed to be a used as a single user application.  Having Synergist installed on a Terminal Server that multiple users can log into can lead to problems as a structure file will be created for each user that logs into Synergist Connect. This can lead to issues with batches not being posted successfully.

If Synergist Connect must be installed on a Terminal server, then we advise that a single user profile account is created solely for the purpose of using Synergist Connect on a terminal server.  It will require users to have a more disciplined approach when wanting to connect to the terminal server.  Such as only ever logging in with the Synergist Connect user profile when a batch needs exporting and remembering to fully close Synergist Connect when posting has finished.
