Recently viewed records can be listed by selecting the tabs control menu and selecting recent. Clicking on this will open a new tab in your work area with all the recent places you've been to:
You can click directly onto any one of these for them to open in a new tab. Note that jobs and opportunities are listed separately, as are organisations and prospects.
